Young children with bone anchored hearing systems often wear a soft band before they are old enough for bone anchored surgery. Most children must wait until around age 5 or 6 for surgery, which means their hearing device is worn externally on a band around their head.

But kids are kids.

They run.
They climb.
They play.

And hearing processors can easily fall off, get bumped, or get damaged during everyday play.

Because these devices can cost thousands of dollars, many parents worry constantly about them getting lost or broken.

That’s why we created this.

The Soft Band Hearing Aid Protector is designed to add an extra layer of protection over the hearing processor while it is worn on a soft band. The lightweight protective shell helps shield the device from bumps and impacts while still allowing sound to pass through.

It keeps the hearing aid secure and protected, so kids can move, explore, and play without constant worry.

For soft band users, I also recommend using an extension for the best fit and comfort when wearing the protector.

Why parents love it

• Helps protect expensive hearing processors
• Designed to fit comfortably with soft bands
• Lightweight and breathable design
• Allows sound to pass through while protecting the device
• Gives parents peace of mind during playtime

Extensions FAQ

Learn more about when and how to use extension pieces with your SolaceShield hearing aid protector.

An extension piece is optional and based on personal preference and fit. Some people choose the extension piece because of:

Head shape and size — different head contours can change how the shield sits.

Volume sensitivity — some users need a bit more space to reduce pressure for comfort.

Hearing aid attachment length or position — devices like bone-anchored systems can vary in how far they protrude from the head (for example, Baha abutments vary in length from person to person).

If you want a little more height/clearance between your hearing device and your headgear (hat, helmet, etc.), the extension piece provides that extra space — but whether you need it is entirely up to you.

The extension piece adds extra height/clearance to the shield. This increased height helps ensure the hearing aid is not pressed too close against the head or hat, which can help:

• Maintain sound quality
• Reduce feedback or squealing
• Improve overall comfort

It's essentially an add-on that gives a bit more room between the device and whatever headwear you're using.

The extension piece is designed for easy attachment and removal:

• The extension simply pulls apart from the shield.
• You can then reattach it quickly when you need extra height.
• No tools are required — it's an intuitive, user-friendly connection.

There's no strict rule — it really comes down to the user's preferences and needs. You might consider an extension piece if:

• You want extra height or clearance
• Your headgear sits deep or tight
• You have a device with a longer attachment (for example, some bone-anchored hearing systems)
• You prefer a fit that doesn't sit as close

Ultimately, it's up to each customer to decide whether the extension gives the comfort and fit they're looking for.
